Moving another site away from them today and hoping to get everyone moved eventually.
Thank you for this guide. Yes, you are right. I am also using Siteground wordpress hosting plan and they have many great features. Moreover, their customer services is unbelievable. Not only is it fast, but their staff is very knowledgeable.
If you set up any sort of eCommerce business,. I have one question. I am currently having one of my sites developed on Magento as well and it is hosted on Host Gator and it is extremely slow. I would like to find a hosting that is suitable, fast and efficient for Magento by the time I launch the store. Most of the time the articles they sent me were not related to the problem and were just a way to avoid helping me. I no longer recommend them to anyone.
Purchased 2x domains and a site from 1 of their customers. The sale went smoothly, no drama BUT trying to get both domains transferred has been an ongoing nightmare — Media Temple still refusing to release domains. Finally closed, only to discover all have been mysteriously answered with back dated date.
Save yourself a massive amount of time, frustration and money, by avoiding Media Temple like the plague! My website loading speeds test above par and their support is simply amazing. They have all sorts of documentation but I simply pull up the chat and within minutes if not seconds they pop up and have my problem solved in no time. I literally could not have done it without them lol. It looks as though your site is now hosted with SingleHop. EngageWP is still hosted by SiteGround, nothing has changed.
SingleHop is a datacenter partner of SiteGround. And their long list of WordPress hosting feature attracted me. Feeling lucky that I found your review before purchasing. I Think I should go with pressidium. Thank you for sharing your experience. If it does not exists it should give error so they are not being a great help for me. Media Temple has bad server security! Their WordPress sites are constantly being attacked with malware. They blame their customers for the attacks and then suspend your site.
Sites without WordPress are also attacked, disproving their accusations that the attacks are due to customers not updating WordPress. Avoid this awful hosting company! When I first started building sites I used Hostgator. I switched to Siteground as well and have loved it every bit! I was looking for some premium hosting to use for a new site and was looking into Media Temple.
I will have to rethink that thought now. Thanks for sharing this. They were great at the beginning, then became awful and unreliable when EIG took them over. I almost switched hosts, but then things there began to stabilize. There have been some uptime issues over the past several years, but nothing bad to speak of in the last 2 years or so.
I went from almost posting an angry rant about them to going back to recommending HostGator. I have definitely seen an improvement in both speed and uptime over the past couple of years. Meanwhile, support has been great. For the record: I use a shared hosting plan, on which I host multiple Web sites without issue. Overhyped and overpriced indeed! Hostgator is awful. I used them for a while then I wanted to cancel my account and they continued to charge me for months.
I have been trying to cancel with them for 3yrs not joking. This is just a screenshot of two emails… but notice the request to cancel in Aug. The are all wonderful and highly capable products and need to be closely matched to the requirements of you website. I use the grid for very small sites up to visitors a month and premium WordPress for upto visitors a month I do use cloudflare and it works just fine for me. I have had great experience with their support also, only thing that has changed after godaddy acquired them is they up-sell more.
I have had issues with MT WP hosting for so damn long. Back in I opened a ticket with them because every single WP install I had was horribly slow. In some cases it would take as long as 30sec to load my landing page.
I even setup their dedicated wordpress hosting and it was just as slow! So I went to Godaddy and set up the same exact site to show them how much faster it was GD was instantly loading my site vs. MT was taking minimum of 10sec. Like, oh you mean the variables of your horrible gridhosting?! I am going to eventually set up my own hosting on DigitalOcean.
I have been with Media temple for almost 10 years and it used to be really good. I have using the grid service. They use to answer request very fast and did their best to help.
However, for the last two, their service has become really bad and my wp site are slowing down massively although I have optimised them a lot wp-rocket and use cdn for static files. Today, the server response time was over 3 seconds!!!
Looking to use a vps and had a look at Mammoth , actually their parent company in Oz i. Has anyone ever used them?
I recommend RoseHosting, I have been with them for more than 4 months now and I am very satisfied with their level of service. Using VPS clearly more fun than shared web hosting. As we know many web hosting providers restrict their clients in terms of server resources. How about websynthesis? However, Genesis. Yep, agree with you on Media Temple. They started sucking once Godaddy bought them. And yes Siteground is way better but they are not perfect either. That unlimited plan only allows k files and you are not allowed to install more than one SSL certificate per entire account.
Despite all of this I do think they are one of the best after wpEngine for WordPress. G Good post Ren! No irony there. Your experience will not change until: 1. You educate yourself more about hosting and 2. You stop using WordPress, which is pretty much a virus in itself. Well, my experience has changed, Jayden. A lot. In fact, SiteGround is recommended by WordPress. There are many people who recommend SiteGround because they provide a quality service, solid performance, and useful features, all at a very reasonable price.
Their support has also been fantastic. Additionally, affiliate links are included in only a small number of my posts, so my content is much more about substance than affiliate income. Lastly, your comment about WordPress is ridiculous.
Moved a wordpress site that Normally does about 10, unique visitors from linode to siteground. All they keep saying is buy more RAM. All they want is more money. Yes, they respond to first ticket message under 10 minutes, but never once solved a problem for me. Sorry to hear that. I am just wondering why did you leave WP Engine? I have heard nothing but positive about them. I want to use them but they would be too pricy for the traffic I get.
Media Temple does the exact opposite. I hosted numerous websites with MT for 3 years and also recommended 4 or 5 clients. I sorely regret that decision. Their support has always been much slower than other hosting companies I have experience with. Rather than call or email me, the decided to shut my server off on a weekend.
This was a server dedicated, so only my sites were on it. This arbitrary, unexpected shut down led to one of my high-traffic sites being taken offline that was currently receiving AdWords traffic to it. So they cost me money not only in potential revenue, but also in AdWords clicks that were being sent to a down website.
Media Temple treats their customers like lowly cattle, and they will charge you an arm and a leg just to be in their cattle pen. MT is now owned by GoDaddy, and most online professionals understand what a terrible reputation GoDaddy and their management have earned themselves in recent years.
Do you own Google search and see for yourself. Or better yet, go through one of their shopping carts and see how many useless upsells you get bombarded with. The support of MT is really useless. So you have to wait again one day until the 2-level support offers his help. The do not even read the ticket history and restored a OLD database.
So all changes were simply gone! The web interface ac. For a small text change you wait seconds. Top super, top and fast servers worldwide, top features — thank you Sideground!
Shame on you at Mediatemple. Mediatemple: Instead of recording beautiful Marketing videos, you would do your homework better! My tip as entrepreneur and computer scientist. Hey, Rick. The company that was set in motion in under the name Integress Technologies would later become the Media Temple we all now know.

Their official website is simple but it also feels stylish, well-organized, and straightforward to use. Both the site and the blog are available in English only and the prices are displayed in USD. If you think Media Temple will give you an unlimited hosting solution and for a song to boot, you better think twice. The pricing of Media Temple's plans may look like daylight robbery.
With Media Temple, you can feel completely safe from misleading marketing practices. If you need help choosing the perfect plan for your needs, Media Temple's pre-sales support staff invites you to start the chat or give them a ring. In any case, the purchase process is both simple and swift. Yet, you may need to sign up before getting all of the options.
The live chat seems to be unavailable at times, so you may want to check the other options instead of burning daylight waiting for it to become available again.
