Beautifully preserved Chepstow Castle stretches out along a limestone cliff above the River Wye like a history lesson in stone.

For more than six centuries Chepstow was home to some of the wealthiest and most powerful men of the medieval and Tudor ages. Building was started in by Earl William fitz Osbern, close friend of William the Conqueror, making it one of the first Norman strongholds in Wales.

These magnates and power-brokers were constantly on the move. Chepstow was just one residence in their vast estates — an impressive shell into which they would bring their gold and silver vessels, rich silk and brightly painted furniture. There is a charging public car park yards below the castle entrance with 4 dedicated disabled spaces and dedicated coach parking.

Sloped access from public car park with 4 dedicated disabled spaces available in council car park directly in front of the castle. Please be aware that the internal pathway running the length of the castle is on a slope and is steep in places.

The nearest public toilets including a disabled toilet are in the public car park at the front of the castle. Cadw do not allow drone flying from or over its guardianship sites, except by contractors commissioned for a specific purpose, who satisfy stringent CAA criteria, have the correct insurances and are operating under controlled conditions.
